Building a Foundation for a Cure
St. Tammany Memorial Cancer Fund (STMCF), based in Mandeville, is dedicated to fighting cancer in the Northshore area through funding research and patient and family services.
STMCF provides funding for the treatment of young people with the disease through contributions to the American Cancer Society and Leonard C. Thomas Foundation, LLC. The organization places special emphasis on propelling local youth to higher learning by partnering with American Cancer Society in bestowing academic scholarships to aid youth in our community, striving to complete a college education while battling cancer of
any kind.

Erin Newman was a full-time student at LSU until the summer of 2006 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. As a scholarship recipient, she plans to return to LSU to continue school to become an oncology physician’s assistant. “Since I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, not only has my outlook on life changed, but my goals have changed as well. I want to help people and let them know that no matter how hard cancer can get, it is always worth the fight.” |

St. Tammany Memorial Cancer Fund began seven years ago with a golf tournament to honor a longtime friend, Andy Goodyear, who lost his battle with cancer. Support for the annual tournament grew with the generous support of our business community and individuals dedicated to fighting cancer. Recognizing a tremendous need in our community for support of those battling cancer, STMCF was formed. Since then, STMCF has awarded over 30 scholarships to Northshore students.
How You Can Help
There are many ways to support STMCF. Make a personal gift or involve your business or organization. You or your employees may also donate time to assist with events and other STMCF activities. Other avenues of contribution include establishing a scholarship in memory of a loved one. Regardless of how you contribute, you’ll find comfort in knowing your gift will help others locally.
