Making a Difference in St. Tammany Parish for 30 years

In 1977, nine Covington women founded a service organization called the Greater Covington Junior Service League. In 1999, this service league affiliated with the Association of Junior Leagues International, an organization comprised of 296 Junior Leagues throughout the world. Today, the JLGC has more than 400 members who are committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Its focus has remained constant: children and families, education, parenting, substance abuse, the elderly and cultural enrichment.

Interested in joining JLGC?
The JLGC reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

JLGC is always looking for women who want to share their time and talents with others in the community. Find more information on how to join or become a sponsor, please visit www.jlgc.net or call 985 892-5258.

Fund Development Projects
Through these projects Junior League of Greater Covington is able to provide the resources needed for its Community Projects.
Roux To Do—Released in 2003, “The Official Cookbook of St. Tammany Parish,” Roux To Do, is the first cookbook published by the JLGC. It won the coveted Tobasco Community Cookbook Award for the region in 2005.
Harvest Cup Polo Classic—Join JLGC this year on Sunday, October 26, for a day of polo and spectacular food and beverages, while contributing to those in need in our community.
Northshore Designer Show House—The biannual Northshore Designer Showhouse features the design work of some of the area’s premier decorators.
Spring Market—The JLGC Spring Market is a 3-day shopping extravaganza planned for March 6-8, 2009. The market will feature a wide variety of upscale vendors selling clothing, gifts, home décor and seasonal items.

Community Projects
Junior League of Greater Covington (JLGC) is committed to the community by providing volunteer hours, resources and funding for many projects that bring enrichment and hope to people in need.
Career Corner—Career Corner provides women entering the work force with appropriate clothing and grooming suggestions necessary to create a professional appearance for job interviews and employment. JLGC volunteers identify those in need through community agencies and churches, and work directly with clients.
Children’s Museum of St. Tammany—In conjunction with St. Tammany Parish, JLGC is busy developing plans and raising funds for a children’s museum to be located in Mandeville. A ground-breaking ceremony is planned for the early fall. For more information, visit www.jlgc.net.
Hope House—Hope House (Children’s Advocacy Center) is a nonprofit organization with the mission of lessening the trauma to children who are the victims of sexual and/or physical abuse. Because of the confidential nature of the work, JLGC volunteers provide clerical support.
New Heights Therapy Center—New Heights is a program that teams mentally, emotionally and physically challenged riders with horses, instructors and volunteers to provide a therapeutic riding session. JLGC volunteers provide support to the staff and riders.
Southeast Louisiana Hospital Adolescent School—This is an educational facility for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. JLGC volunteers spend time making arts and crafts, baking or playing games.
